Selecting Giraffe weevils (Trachelophorus giraffa) in the insect collection at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C for DNA barcoding. This project focuses on sampling insect specimens identified by museum curators to expand the the DNA barcode library. Specimens are taken back to the University of Guelph Centre for Biodiversity Genomics where we digitize specimen labels, photograph, tissue sample and extract DNA. All data is kept in an online repository called the Barcode of Life Data System (BOLD).
