New Director, School of Computer Science
It is with the greatest pleasure that I inform you that, after a competitive search process, Professor Minglun Gong has agreed to serve as Director, School of Computer Science (SoCS) in the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences (CEPS), commencing May 1st, 2019.
Professor Gong is currently head of the Department of Computer Science at Memorial University of Newfoundland. He is a renowned researcher in the area of Visual Computing (including Computer Graphics, Computer Vision, Visualization, Image Processing, and Pattern Recognition) and he has 15 years’ experience as an academic.
Professor Gong earned a B.Eng. from Harbin Engineering University in China in 1994, his M.Sc in Computer Science from Tsinghua University, China in 1997 and his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Alberta in 2003. After graduating with his PhD, Dr. Gong became a faculty member at Laurentian University for four years before joining Memorial University. He has over 100 refereed publications and has been awarded one patent. He is also an award-winning teacher.
