The Residence Experience
Make This Place Your Home
Living in residence is so much more than a room with a bed. Our Residence Life department is dedicated to helping you create your home away from home.
We achieve this by organizing events and employing over 200 dedicated Residence Life Staff members who provide academic, wellness, and other resources to support you and help you thrive at the University of Guelph.
Residence Life, part of Student Housing Services, collaborates with various campus units to build strong, inclusive communities. Our dedicated staff and student leaders offer year-round activities and supportive resources to enrich your campus experience.
We Are Here For You
To help you get the most out of living on campus, our Residence Life Team works to create a residence experience that focuses on four key goals.
- Academic Success
- Supporting learning styles through resources, collaboration, and peer connections.
- Well-Being
- Empowering residents to build resilience, navigate challenges, and prioritize their well-being.
- Sense of Belonging
- Building connections, reflection skills, and meaningful relationships within residence.
- Safety
- Promoting a culture of inclusion, consent, and Gryphon Values for a safer community.
How Do We Create This Environment?
Community Experience
- Community engagement and connections: Engage with others through planned social events.
- Community Meetings: Participate in community hangouts to learn more about engagement opportunities, build resiliency skills, and build to connect with your peers.
- Gryphon Chats: Intentional 1-on-1 time with your community RLS member to chat about your academics and your university experience.
- Supportive Environment: Experience a community where standards are upheld through facilitated mediations, Community and Roommate Agreements, nightly RLS “On-Call” shifts, and more.
Mentorship, Academic Support, and More
Our Residence Life Staff (RLS) are senior students living in residence who are committed to providing an inclusive, respectful, and fun experience for you and your fellow students. RLS provide key functions such as on-call responsibilities, academic support, mentorship, educational awareness, and residence-wide activities.

Pep Rally
Brought to you by IHC! A cheer-off between all of the residence halls at the end of orientation-week. Every residence hall learns cheers and their hall boogie, performing that boogie in front of the rest of the residences, proving which hall truly has the most spirit.
