Worker Health and Safety Awareness Training

This seminar is offered both in-class or on-line and is designated to provide all new employees a Safety Orientation training session prior to the commencement of work. It is a mandatory for all full and part time staff, including paid graduate students. This training is also foundational training for volunteers and students involved in UofG workplaces or research activities.

The materials provide workers with an introduction to health and safety and the Occupational Health and Safety Act of Ontario and safety at the U of G health as well as safety policies, programs, systems and resources.

This mandatory training session will cover the roles and responsibilities assigned to workplace parties, hazards in the workplace, how hazards are controlled, and safe work is organized.

  • how to get involved, including Joint Health & Safety Committees or Health and Safety Representatives,
  • how to report of injuries
  • Review resources for health and safety.

It will also provide insights into how the intent of the safety regulations apply to the academic setting.

This online module is designed to meet Regulation 297 Occupational Health and Safety Awareness and Training.
