New Electronic Monitoring Policy
On April 11, 2022, the Ontario government passed Bill 88, which amended the Employment Standards Act, 2000 (ESA) to create a new obligation for employers with twenty-five (25) or more employees to prepare and implement a written policy by October 11, 2022 with respect to the electronic monitoring of employees. The policy must include certain information including, but not limited to, whether the employer electronically monitors employees and, if so, a description of how and in what circumstances the employer may monitor employees, and the purposes for which information obtained through electronic monitoring may be used by the employer. In compliance with this legislative change, the University has implemented the Electronic Monitoring Policy (HR Policy 715) which can be found on the Human Resources website.
