Free Drop-In Recreational Skating - December 2024

Get into the holiday spirit with some skating, hot beverages, and snacks! Grab your skates and head down to the Gryphon Centre Arena for a recreational skate. Helmets are strongly recommended and staff and faculty should bring their U of G cards. Attendees will need to sign a waiver before entering the rink. Hot beverages and light snacks will be available. Please also consider bringing an item to donate to the Guelph Student FoodBank.

Loneliness & Isolation Fatigue - Self-Care Strategies

Human beings are a social species and social connection is a critical component of our health. Without it, impacts are felt across all dimensions of our wellbeing. This is why it is so important for us to practice self-care strategies and to nurture the positive relationships and connections in our lives. This one hour session will increase participant’s awareness and understanding of the psychological impacts of isolation and loneliness while highlighting factors that can promote and preserve their health and well-being.

Hosted by Athletics & Recreation for staff and faculty to attend as part of Wellness @ Work. Helmets are recommended and staff and faculty should bring their U of G cards. Practicing self-compassion is sometimes viewed as being self-indulgent, self-absorbed or letting ourselves off easy. In fact, self-compassion enables us to evaluate our experiences more rationally and also kicks in to help us develop more effective solutions for making things better. Research shows that practicing self-compassion is a powerful tool for motivation and is strongly related to psychological well-being, including increased life satisfaction and resilience and decreased anxiety and depression.
