ON TOUR @ U of G Sustainability Series Highlights

Throughout the month of August, Wellness@Work invited employees to explore unique places on campus to learn more about how we are working together to create a more sustainable U of G.

Staff and faculty were invited to tour the UC Basement Kitchen, the Honey Bee Research Centre, and the Guelph Centre for Urban Organic Farming.  A talk was also hosted by the Sustainability Office, highlighting the different programs U of G runs to create a more sustainable campus.

Happy tasting!

Winners of the Spring Snaps Challenge

Throughout the month of June, Wellness@Work encouraged employees to snap a photo of a beautiful flower, garden or a unique tree at U of G and enter their photo for a chance to win a prize. Thank you to everyone who submitted their beautiful Spring photos for the Spring Snaps photo challenge.

45 photos were submitted and reviewed by the Grounds team in Physical Resources to determine the top 3 photos.

The prize winners were each awarded a beautiful flower pot arrangement provided by the Department of Plant Agriculture (see the above photo).

Mental Health and Workplace Culture in Population Medicine

The Department of Population Medicine in OVC received a Wellness@Work grant in 2018 to provide a space with activities that encourage Population Medicine team members to see the department holistically. The program included a variety of activities to support physical, mental and social health and wellbeing.

Wellness@Work Goes Behind-the-Scenes at the UC Kitchen

University of Guelph Hospitality Services has long been recognized as a Canadian leader for sustainability initiatives within the food service and retail operations.  For 10 years in a row, Maclean’s Magazine has voted U of G the #1 Food Service University in Canada.

Wellness@Work wanted to give employees a chance to go behind-the-scenes of the extensive food operation in the University Centre, to learn more about how the food we eat gets stored, prepared and delivered on campus.

Water You Drinking? Challenge

Wellness@Work is challenging you to increase your daily water consumption.  Track your daily water intake throughout July!  Put an “X” in each water drop on your tracking sheet (attached) after you’ve had 8 oz of water.

Celebrating International Day of Yoga

The United Nations has declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga.  View an article and photos in Guelph Today from our June 21 event on the Guelph Campus.

What is yoga?

Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice.  The word 'yoga' translates to "unite" or "join," connecting the body and consciousness (United Nations).

Guelph Campus is now Tobacco- and Smoke-Free

As communities around the world celebrate World No Tobacco Day, U of G’s Guelph campus marks its first day as a tobacco- and smoke-free space.

“It’s something that will help us create a healthier future for everyone on our campus,” said Don O’Leary, vice-president (finance, administration and risk). “It’s an important step for us.”

Wellness@Work Strategic Plan Consultation

What has been happening since the 2017 Wellness@Work Survey?  The Wellness@Work Advisory Committee has been working on a draft strategic plan.

Broad input from University of Guelph employees is important to ensure the Advisory Committee has identified meaningful priorities and to confirm that there are not any significant gaps or omissions in the draft plan.

Please share your feedback by June 18, 2019 to Melissa Horan, Wellness@Work Coordinator at mhoran@uoguelph.ca or extension 53314.
