That challenge is the reason International Women in Engineering Day is celebrated each year on June 23.
Each year, the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences and its academic units present outstanding graduating students with convocation awards to recognize their excellence and contributions to the University community throughout their programs. In 2023, 25 awards were given: 10 CEPS Dean’s Office awards and 15 Department and School awards.

A Groundbreaking Approach to Pipe Degradation
Dr. Manick Annamalai is an Associate Professor at the School of Engineering. His research focus is to “Improve life by improving the availability of safe and healthy food”. His team is developing non-destructive testing systems for biological application, validating imaging protocols, optimizing machine learning procedures, comparing bio-imaging systems with traditional methods for performance and costing, and implementing in real-world food supply system.
Graduating from Biomedical Toxicology in 2020, Cole Heasley was an active student at U of G. Tapping into the coop program, becoming an executive for ToXSA and VP Internal Affairs for CEPSSC. Today Cole works at the SickKids Research Institute.
1 - Why did you choose the U of G?
We spoke with Co-Presidents of the Guelph EngiQueers, Adrianna Con (She/Her) & Perri Worrell (She/Her), and talked about their club and what they have coming up to celebrate pride month!
Could you tell us a little bit about Guelph EngiQueers and what you do?
The Morwick G360 Groundwater Research Institute (Morwick G360) welcomed 75 guests in person and another 25 guests online to celebrate and learn more about groundwater’s role on our planet. President Charlotte Yates addressed the need for partnership and collaboration, thanking the ongoing support of our alumni, industry and government partners, and fellow researchers. While the Morwick G360’s Director, Dr. Beth Parker discussed the critical challenges facing our groundwater resources in Canada and around the world.
The 2023 Annual College Awards recognize faculty and staff for their commitment to academic and research excellence.
