Waste Reduction Week

On October 21-25, Canada recognizes Waste Reduction Week. Throughout the week, we celebrate our progress with environmental initiatives while also looking for new innovative ways to live a more sustainable lifestyle.   Each day of the week has a different theme, to provide education and ideas around how each of us can take action to make more environmentally friendly choices day to day. Wellness Friday: Making Shiftwork Work for You

Shift workers know first-hand the challenges of fighting the body's natural sleep-wake pattern and the strain that shiftwork can sometimes put on their health and well-being. This session will help participants identify the challenges and stressors that are unique to shiftwork, as well as strategies that may be helpful in improving sleep, eating healthy, and establishing routines that are helpful. Facilitator: Homewood Health

Mental Health First Aid Day 1

The Mental Health First Aid Course is a 2 day course that provides participants the skills and knowledge to help people better manage potential or developing mental health problems in themselves, a family member, a friend or a colleague

Think Pink Fundraising for Breast Cancer Awareness

Gryphon Football are running a “pink wall” event at the UC to raise donations for breast cancer.  For a donation, you can write on a breast cancer sticker and put it up on the wall. Also, for a minimum $10 donation you can receive a pair of pink mittens.  Football Advancement will match donations for the pink wall, mitts and hoodies up to $2500.

Recess League

Do you miss the good old days on the playground? We have the solution for you, Recess League runs weekly with a random sport picked each time inspired by school yard games. Recess League is a great way to have a mental wellness break in the middle of the work or school day! Examples of sports that are played in Recess League are 3-on-3 Basketball, Kickball, Nerf, Ultimate Frisbee, Scooter Dodge-ball, and so many more! There is no previous experience required.

Given the difficulty post-secondary students face accessing timely, affordable, and stigma-free professional care, how are university students with mental health experience managing their health and wellbeing? Loa Gordan will share her graduate research on how students are increasingly seeking self-care as a form of wellness and what the implications of this trend are.
