CMHA: The Benefits of Setting Boundaries

Personal boundaries are guidelines, rules or limits that a person creates to identify reasonable, safe and permissible ways for other people to behave towards them and how they will respond when someone passes those limits. Setting boundaries is essential for both physical and emotional health. Recognizing the need to set and enforce limits helps to protect your self-esteem, maintain self-respect, and enjoy healthy relationships. Unhealthy boundaries can cause emotional pain that can lead to dependency, depression, anxiety, and even stress-induced physical illness.

Mood Routes

Join the Student Education and Wellness Promotion Centre for a social walk through the Arboretum! We meet outside the J.T. Powell building every Friday at noon, rain or shine! This walking group aims to support your mental and physical health by providing you with an opportunity to take a step back from your responsibilities and stresses, engage with others at a social distance all whilst enjoying the healing effects of nature. Being free and non-committal, Mood Routes will allow you to enjoy both the physical and emotional benefits of walking with few barriers.

The Art of Relaxation

Today’s life is fast-paced and leaves little time to relax and decompress. Greater pressure is being put on all of us to do more. The result is that many of us have lost the ability to sit still and simply be with ourselves. This session will explore personal stress triggers and review some practical, easy techniques to make brief relaxation moments a natural part of everyday life. Facilitator: Homewood Health Register today!

Weekly Mindfulness Drop-In

Each session will open with taking some time to connect and presence ourselves in the virtual space: unmuting ourselves, saying hello, telling a story, saying something about how things are going. Next, we will do some breathwork, then a short gratitude practice, and then a short practice of acknowledging (silently) our hopes, our longings, what we are wanting more of in/from life, maybe even asking for it. Following this we will do one of three practices: 1. Coming to our senses 2. Cultivating Equanimity 3. Guided Imagery (active imagination)

CMHA: Self Care during the Holidays

The pandemic has changed how we live, work, connect and how we manage our stress levels. We have had to adjust our “tried and true” coping strategies to accommodate public health measures, including shutdowns and gathering limits.  We need to get back to the basics of self-care in order to maintain good mental health. During this holiday season, we need to continue to do what is best for ourselves and our comfort level with gathering.  This could include changing our holiday plans and traditions even though it might upset others.
