Reporting to the Manager, Clinical Services, the Registered Dietitian works both independently and with other Student Wellness health professionals to provide individual and group counselling to students to promote healthy meal planning, disease prevention, and treatment of acute and chronic diseases. The Registered Dietitian assesses client nutrition, nutritional conditions and the treatment and prevention of nutrition related disorders by nutritional means. The dietitian maintains a high ratio of clients with mental health diagnoses and co-morbidities and is an integral part of the clinical and mental health circle of care.

The Dietitian provides clinical nutrition management for conditions including, but not limited to, an Eating Disorder, Diabetes, Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease, Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, dyslipidemia, hypertension, anemia, anxiety, depression, and weight management and medication compliance in individuals prescribed psychotropic medications. This involves consultation and collaboration with Student Wellness Services Medical Doctors, Psychiatrists, Nurses and Counsellors

One to one nutrition counselling for University of Guelph students with concerns that include, but are not limited to, disordered eating behaviors, fatigue, food insecurity, irritable bowel syndrome, fuelling for sport and vegetarianism. The purpose of this counselling is to provide specific support during a sensitive time of transition enabling students to achieve their full academic potential and to develop habits that will support lifelong physical and mental wellness.

The Dietitian will offer Group Nutrition Counselling, education and collaboration with on/off campus partners and will assist with facilitating experiential learning for dietetic interns, student volunteers, and Student Peer Helpers. The incumbent will assist in the collection, analysis and the reporting of applicable stats.

Job requirements and Qualifications

  • Registered and in good standing with the College of Dietitians of Ontario and meets College requirements for quality assurance and continuing competency
  • Completion of an accredited dietetic internship or equivalent supervised practical training.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience in individual clinical nutrition counselling and group teaching
  • Experience working with young adults and adults with mental health conditions including eating disorders and disordered eating
  • Experience working with culturally diverse populations and promotes access to nutritional support for all students utilizing an EDI (Equity Diversity and Inclusion) lens
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the impact of social determinants of health on an individual’s educational needs and ability to maintain dietary recommendations
  • Maintains a high level of professional competence through continuing education and critical evaluation of professional practice that enables implementation of best practices
  • Able to work with a high degree of autonomy, as well as collaboratively with other Student Wellness team members
  • Experience with an Electronic Health Records system is essential (preference for Telus/Input Health)
  • Demonstrates a commitment to best practice and client-focused care
  • Demonstrates excellent computer proficiency and interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  • A good understanding of and appreciation for the complex and unique needs of the campus community

This is an on-site position at the University of Guelph main campus in Guelph.

Normal Hiring Range  $38.91 - $46.49 per hour
