The Research Centre Outreach Coordinator (Coordinator) oversees outreach activities related to the network of agri-food research centres that spans the province. These centres support research, training, and outreach for the benefit of Ontario’s agri-food sector. The research centres are managed by the Office of Research, Agri-Food Partnership though the Ontario Agri-Food Innovation Alliance, a collaboration between the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the University of Guelph.

Under the supervision of the Knowledge Mobilization Manager, the Coordinator supports research centre outreach activities with a focus on the Elora Research Station’s livestock operations (dairy, beef and swine research centres). The Coordinator plays a key role in maintaining important relationships with industry partners and works to ensure Ontario’s producers benefit as much as possible from the research undertaken at each facility.

The Coordinator oversees tour delivery and strategic knowledge translation and transfer (KTT) initiatives (such as workshops, training sessions or conferences) designed to enhance the impact of the agri-food research centres. The Coordinator will be responsible for the continued execution of the student ambassador program to aid with tour delivery. The Coordinator also works closely with the Communications and Marketing Manager in the Office of Research, Agri-Food Partnership to identify opportunities to enhance awareness of research outcomes.

Requirements for this position include:

  • Two (2) year community college in a related field (an undergraduate degree in agriculture, animal biosciences or related field preferred) and minimum 27 months’ relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication
  • Well-developed planning, organizational and project management skills; attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with partners from across the agri-food sector
  • Strong interpersonal and client-relation skills
  • Awareness of best practices in knowledge translation and transfer (KTT) and communication, and the ability to apply them to initiatives and materials
  • Demonstrated ability to understand complex scientific material and tailor communication strategies to meet audience needs
  • Knowledge of animal agriculture and/or production agriculture and farming operations
  • Knowledge of research practices and processes in the animal and/or plant agricultural research
  • Valid driver’s license

It is expected that the Coordinator will spend more than 50% of their time at the Elora Research Station.
