The Toxicology Section of the Animal Health Laboratory seeks a qualified individual to play a key role in supporting Laboratory Services Division’s values: Client Centered, Integrity, Individuals Matter, Shared Responsibility, and Committed to Evolving.  The incumbent will provide a broad supporting role for a diverse range of projects, for a variety of analytical methods and matrices by being responsible for the preparation of samples for analysis, including the weighing, drying, grinding and, digesting of food, feed, veterinary and agriculture samples.  Additional duties include: organizing daily workflow of samples under the guidance of laboratory technicians; creating electronic worksheets; entering and retrieving sample information into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS); reagent/standard preparation; calibrating pipettes, thermometers, balances, etc.; tracking inventory; sample disposal; and general laboratory cleanliness. 

Requirements of the position include:

  • Two-year Community College in a Laboratory Technician program, combined with some relevant laboratory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience;
  • Demonstrated working experience in a high volume, fast paced, time-sensitive environment; experience in sample preparation/homogenization/digestion of various food, feed, animal tissue and biological liquids samples;
  • Good understanding of laboratory health & safety practices and WHMIS;
  • Excellent time management and multi-tasking skills; ability to work under pressure and adhering to strict deadlines;
  • Exceptional self-motivational skills combined with strong communication skills to work effectively in both a team and individual environment;
  • Experience working with a recognized quality management system (ISO/IEC 17025, AAVLD or OECD GLP);
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, client-focused environment with an emphasis on producing quality results.

Must be, or willing to be rabies vaccinated.
