The Soil & Nutrient Section of the Agriculture and Food Laboratory seeks a qualified individual to play a key role in supporting Laboratory Services Division’s values: Client Centered, Integrity, Individuals Matter, Shared Responsibility, and Committed to Evolving.  The incumbent will provide supporting role involving the preparation of soil, plant and feed samples for analysis and determination of soil physical properties.  Duties include: weighing, drying, grinding, sieving and, extraction of soil, plant and feed samples; creating electronic worksheets; tracking inventory; sample disposal; maintaining general laboratory cleanliness; and other duties as assigned. 

Requirements of the position include: One-year Community College in a Laboratory Technician program, combined with some relevant laboratory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional requirements include: demonstrated working experience in a high volume, fast paced, time-sensitive environment; experience in sample preparation of soil, plant and feed samples; good understanding of laboratory health & safety practices and WHMIS; excellent time management, organizational and multi-tasking skills; proven ability to work effectively in a team environment; proven experience with visual observation and attention to quality and detail; strong computer skills; ability to work under pressure and adhering to strict deadlines.
